Delhi is not just about forts, palaces, and modern
attractions—it is also home to some of the most spiritual and peaceful places
in India. Among them, Gurudwara Bangla Sahib, located near Connaught
Place, stands out as one of the most significant Sikh shrines in the country.
Known for its golden dome, holy Sarovar (lake), and free community kitchen (langar),
this sacred place welcomes thousands of devotees and tourists every day,
irrespective of religion or background.
If you’re planning a trip to Delhi, Gurudwara Bangla
Sahib is a must-visit destination to experience spirituality, peace, and
Indian culture.
🌟 History of Gurudwara
Bangla Sahib
Originally, the site was a bungalow (bangla)
belonging to Raja Jai Singh, a ruler from Jaipur in the 17th century. In 1664,
the eighth Sikh Guru, Guru Har Krishan Sahib Ji, stayed here during his
visit to Delhi. At that time, Delhi was suffering from an epidemic of cholera
and smallpox.
Guru Har Krishan Ji devoted himself to helping the sick and
offered water from the well at this bungalow, which miraculously healed many.
Later, this well became the holy Sarovar of the Gurudwara.
Unfortunately, Guru Har Krishan Ji himself fell victim to the illness and
passed away at a very young age.
Today, Gurudwara Bangla Sahib stands as a symbol of
service, compassion, and faith.
